Jama Pantel: Unfiltered
I decided to stop performing and start telling the truth.
Jama Pantel: Unfiltered is real talk for women who are done surviving and ready to actually figure out what comes next.
If you've spent decades being the dependable one, the overachiever, the fixer, the woman who figures it out while everyone else falls apart, this show is for you.
I'm Jama. I'm an Austin-based photographer, speaker, and 23-time marathon finisher who knows what it means to build something from nothing. I know what survival mode feels like from the inside. And I know what happens when life finally shifts and you don't know what to do with the breathing room.
Episodes are short, honest, and zero fluff. Because you're busy. And you deserve real.

A Last Minute Escape To Lake Tahoe

Texas heat has a way of turning a normal week into a survival story, so I finally asked the most honest question possible: where can I go where it’s not 100 degrees? That late-night search sent me down a short list of cooler escapes, and I landed on a last-minute Lake Tahoe trip because it promised maximum relief with minimal planning.
I share what the timing really looked like coming straight off a work trip, unpacking and repacking, and trying to feel human while living out of a bag. Tahoe delivered the reset I needed: 50 degree mornings that made my run feel effortless, sunny 75 degree afternoons for swimming and beach time, and the kind of fresh air that reminds you your body isn’t supposed to be tense all day. Along the way, I talk about why running and taking photos calm me, and how social media habits can quietly change what we choose to share and why.
We also hit the practical travel highlights if you’re planning a Tahoe long weekend itinerary: the hike down to Sand Harbor, sunset at Inspiration Point near Emerald Bay, why I chose South Lake Tahoe for more food options, and a quick casino detour where I learned I’m still not a gambler. Then there’s the twist: my Garmin still flagged me as strained, which opened up a real conversation about sleep debt and how recovery doesn’t automatically happen just because you’re somewhere pretty.
If you’re craving a true break, steal a few ideas from my Tahoe reset, then tell me what kind of weather you’re chasing right now. Subscribe, share this with a friend who needs a cool-down trip, and leave a review with your favorite quick getaway spot.

Chasing Weather Under 100 Degrees
Jama PantelEarlier this month I googled where can I go where it's not a hundred degrees? Because it has been so hot here in Texas this summer and I needed a break. Not a work trip or work conference or a meeting thing that I had to be on for, but an actual break to get away from the heat. Hey y'all, it's your podcast bestie Jama again, and today's episode is going to be a short one because it is after midnight and I drop my podcast at 5 a.m. and let's see, technically I am still on West Coast time, so we're just gonna go with it. Um so today I'm just gonna talk to you for a little bit. So let's go back to that Google search that started all of this and to why I'm doing this so late.
Choosing Tahoe Over Other Options
Jama PantelSo my search for where can I go when it's not a hundred degrees came back with a few options. San Francisco was one of those options, and yes, I do find San Francisco very cold in the summer, but been there, done that, and I didn't want a city. Bar Harbor Maine and Acadia National Park also came up, and I really want to go there. That one's been on my bucket list for a while, but I thought that this trip deserved a little bit more than a long weekend, so I'm saving it up for when I can actually do it right. And then Lake Tahoe. So I've been there before and it's beautiful, and it doesn't require much planning. So there we
The Chaotic Pack And Fly Sprint
Jama Pantelgo. I booked a very last minute trip. The timing was a little chaotic if I'm being honest. Again, I had just got back from a work trip and I haven't been sleeping in my own bed in about a week. Um, so it was a great time being away, but it's also very exhausting being away all those days and actually having to be on for work. But, anyways, I got back from East Texas, long drive because Texas is big. I unpacked, repacked, and headed to the airport. So it was a long weekend in Tahoe and I really loved it.
Runs Swims Hikes And Photos
Jama PantelFirst morning I woke up, 50 degrees outside, went for my morning run. It was amazing. Later that afternoon, sunny and 75, one of my favorite times, and I was swimming in the lake, sitting at the beach, relaxing, doing all the things. So I went for runs there, I went for hikes there, I took a lot of pictures. Because like running, taking pictures really, really calms me. Nowadays I don't share those pictures like I used to. I should probably get back to that. You know, back before my run influencer days and always posting pictures of me, I actually posted pictures of everything else and rarely shared me. That whole run influencer life really jacked up with my Instagram posting schedule. I don't know. Anyways, I ate so much good food and I you better believe I sat outside for every single meal because why wouldn't you? It felt so good there. It's not scorching like it hits here in
Sand Harbor Sunset And South Shore
Jama PantelTexas. So I think my favorite part is, and I've already been there before, so this doesn't surprise me, the hike to Sand Harbor. Um, the views are absolutely amazing as you hike down there, and I highly recommend it. Um, I was able to catch sunset at Inspiration Point on Emerald Lake, and it was amazing. Last time I went to Tahoe, I stayed in Incline Village. This time I decided for a little more action, if you will, and stayed in South Lake Tahoe. So many more places to eat. Of course, I checked out the casinos and maybe lost about five dollars gambling on the penny slots, because I'm not a big gambler.
Sleep Debt Garmin Strain And Reset
Jama PantelAnd the funny part on all of this, after a relaxing time away, my Garmin told me I was strained, which doesn't surprise me. When you don't sleep in your own bed for a week straight, it really messes with you. Um been going out for, like I said, the work trips, not sleeping in my own bed, not getting good sleep. Yeah, it's a lot.
Back To Austin Recommendations And Bye
Jama PantelSo now that I'm back home dropping this podcast, I will get back on track with the human design series next week. Promise y'all. So, anyways, if Ley Tahu is on your trip, I highly recommend it. If you have any questions about it, let me know. Good to be back home in the ATX, even though it's a hundred degrees plus outside, and I'm gonna miss those 50s and 70s. Anyways, that's all I got for now. Bye y'all.
